Our Alliance with Lindblad Expeditions
As pioneers in exploration, National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions share a passion for adventure, discovery, and conservation. Since 2004, our alliance has allowed us to pool our extensive resources and provide extraordinary small ship voyages to some of the world's most remote and fascinating places.
The National Geographic/Lindblad fleet
Our fleet of five expedition ships includes the National Geographic Endeavour, National Geographic Islander, National Geographic Sea Bird, National Geographic Sea Lion, and the National Geographic Explorer—the newest addition to the fleet and arguably the finest expedition ship on the water.
We've brought expedition travel into the 21st century, traveling to remote, unsoiled territory without sacrificing comfort. Each ship features comfortable cabins, a lounge, a library, and wellness services so that you can unwind after an active day. And chefs on board create delicious meals that reflect the cuisine of the places we visit using fresh, local, and organic ingredients. On board each ship, you'll find Zodiac landing craft, sea kayaks, and snorkeling gear, as well as specially designed tools that allow for more extensive exploration.
An unparalleled team
The hallmark of our expeditions with Lindblad is the team of experts that accompanies every trip—seasoned naturalists, undersea specialists, and researchers who share their knowledge and insights with our travelers and bring each destination to life. On select voyages, the team will be joined by a National Geographic scientist, historian, photographer, or explorer.
Cutting-edge exploration tools
Each ship is equipped with the latest innovations in exploration technology, such as bow cameras, remotely-operated vehicles, undersea cameras, hydrophones, video-microscopes, and Crittercams—our eyes and ears beneath the waves.
A unique platform
Through our alliance, we can actively support National Geographic's ongoing research and exploration projects around the world. For instance, adventurer Jon Bowermaster recently completed a series of expeditions supported by National Geographic to explore the seven continents and Oceania by kayak. Lindblad transported his kayaks to the starting point of the final expedition and invited him on board for a good meal and a shower before he set off. Our travelers were treated to an evening of incredible tales from an intrepid explorer.
Advisory panel
Our advisory panel of world-class researchers, scientists, and explorers ensures continued support of conservation and sustainability initiatives and includes oceanographer and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Sylvia Earle and Greg Marshall, Executive Producer and Director of National Geographic's Remote Imaging Program.
Lindblad/National Geographic Fund
Our organizations have established the Lindblad/National Geographic Fund for Research Conservation and Exploration to support education, conservation, and sustainable development initiatives in the areas we explore together.
Leadership in geotourism
Sven-Olof Lindblad, founder and president of Lindblad Expeditions, was recently appointed to the National Geographic Society's Conservation Trust Advisory Board, reflecting National Geographic's growing commitment to geotourism.
