Why Travel With Us?
We've explored the world for more than a century. Now, let us take you with us!
With our innovative itineraries, our top-notch experts, and a thriving network of resources all over the world, we have the privilege of offering you exceptional travel experiences. What is the National Geographic difference? Just take a look:
Itineraries with an expert's touch
When crafting our expeditions, we tap into the knowledge and insights of our National Geographic experts to bring depth and meaning to your travel experience. Our Human Origins: South Africa to Tanzania expedition, for instance, was developed in collaboration with Donald Johanson, the paleoanthropologist who discovered "Lucy," the 3.2-million-year-old partial skeleton and hominin ancestor to Homo sapiens. Best of all, Donald has not only shaped our itinerary, he also leads our trip!
National Geographic opens doors
When traveling with National Geographic, you enjoy access to special events, scientific installations, archaeological digs, and private homes. Whenever possible, we arrange visits to Society-sponsored research sites and with experts in the field so you can meet the people whose discoveries you've read about in the pages of National Geographic magazine. In China, for example, you'll encounter the army of terra-cotta warriors in Xi'an on a private VIP tour. At Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania, you'll be joined by Meave or Louise Leakey—both National Geographic Explorers-in-Residence—for a fascinating discussion of their family's legendary finds.
Travel with the experts
There is nothing quite like seeing a place through the eyes of someone who knows it intimately and cares about it passionately. Our expeditions are led by National Geographic experts—anthropologists, archaeologists, biologists, explorers, historians, naturalists, photographers, filmmakers, and writers. Their insiders' perspectives and palpable enthusiasm bring a certain magic that makes for an unforgettable journey.
Active exploration with options
To help you tailor your expedition to your interests, we build in options wherever we can. On our New Zealand Adventure, for example, you'll have many choices: ride a jet boat on the Shotover River or set out on a guided forest walk; explore the incredible Doubtful Sound by kayak, or enjoy the view while relaxing on the deck of our ship; embark on an underground tubing trip in Metro Cave, or take a leisurely stroll in Paparoa National Park.
Travel in good company
Your traveling companions are Society members like you—active and engaged travelers who are passionately curious about the world. With the sense of camaraderie and shared adventure that naturally develops on our trips, it is not surprising that many lasting friendships have started on a National Geographic Expedition.
Discover the exotic, in comfort and style
In the spirit of the Society's early explorers, who were known to bring foie gras and wine on their expeditions, we consider comfort an integral part of every trip. Whether you're relaxing in the arcaded courtyard of a 15th-century monastery in Peru, or speeding through Siberia on a private luxury train, our accommodations are carefully selected for their exceptional quality, location, and character.
A diverse collection of experiences
Our expeditions are designed to reflect our members' broad spectrum of interests. Improve your photography skills on a photography workshop or expedition; sail the world's most stunning waterways on one of our small-ship voyages; set off on a family adventure, designed to inspire travelers of all ages; take a classic rail journey; or embark on a private air adventure for the ultimate in comfort and convenience.
We'll take care of the details
Leave the legwork to us. We've secured quality accommodations and arranged for transportation, excursions, entrance fees, porterage, and most meals and gratuities. We take care of the details so you can relax, enjoy, and immerse yourself in the wonder of the places you are exploring.
Sustaining the world's treasures
National Geographic Expeditions is committed to sustaining the character of each place we visit—its environment, culture, heritage, and the well-being of its residents. While providing authentic travel experiences for our members, we strive to protect the sites we visit and to support local economies in our choice of accommodations and services. "This was our first National Geographic Expedition, but not the last. It was a life-changing, incredible experience that was beyond anything we could've imagined. We felt as if we were living a National Geographic documentary. It was an experience we'll never forget and wouldn't trade for anything."
